Abstract
This paper examines the effects of daily hassles and coping styles on mental health in a prospective longitudinal study of a community sample. It was found that daily hassles correlated with psychological symptoms, even after previous symptom levels were controlled. Early experience of hassles influenced later coping practice, and direct coping was more adaptive than suppression in coping with daily hassles.Mesh:
