Abstract
BACKGROUND: Conducting process evaluations of health promoting interventions, and measuring the effectiveness of specific intervention components, may help in the understanding of program failure or success. The purposes of the present study were to examine adults' exposure to and involvement in specific components of a three year long pseudo-experimental community-based physical activity intervention, and to examine the relationship between such exposure and participation and changes in stages of change in physical activity and psychosocial mediators.Entities:

BMI, body mass index.
Social support and Identity range from 1 to 5; Self-efficacy, Attitude, and Perceived behavioural control range from 1 to 7. Higher scores indicate a greater psychosocial readiness for physical activity.
Relationship between intervention components exposure, change in stages of physical activity, and psychosocial mediating influences (n = 324–578).

A = Relationship between exposure to or participation in specific intervention components and change in stages of physical activity.
B = Relationship between exposure to or participation in specific intervention components and change in potential psychosocial mediators.
C = Relationship between change in potential mediators and change in stages of physical activity.
D = Relationship between exposure to or participation in specific intervention components and change in stages of physical activity adjusted for change in mediator.
Note. All βs refer to the standardized regression coefficients from simple and multiple regression analyses.
Only significant relationships are included in B. C and D are included when both A and B are significant.
