Abstract
Sex steroids modulate growth hormone (GH) secretion and action. Estrogen attenuates GH action in a dose- and route-dependent manner by inhibiting GH-regulated endocrine function of the liver. Testosterone amplifies the metabolic action of GH while exhibiting similar but independent effects of its own. The strong modulatory effect of gonadal steroids on GH responsiveness provides insights into the biologic basis of sexual dimorphism in growth, development, and body composition and practical information for the clinical endocrinologist in the treatment of hypopituitary patients.Entities:
