Abstract
At some time in a general surgeon's career it is likely that they will be asked to care for a surgical problem in a transplant recipient. In many instances, the treating surgeon may opt for transferring the patient to a transplant center more familiar with organ transplant recipients, but at other times transfer may not be the optimal option for the patient. This article is intended to touch on some of the more common situations that a general surgeon in community practice might encounter in dealing with organ transplant recipients, and highlight perioperative and in a few cases, intraoperative, concerns.Entities:
