Abstract
Twenty Australian community staphylococci harboring the type V staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) were found to belong to eight multilocus sequence types. Five were previously unreported novel type V SCCmec elements. The mec complexes were of two types, based on the polymorphisms in the IS431 transposase genes.
