Abstract
Glycoprotein hormones regulate reproduction in vertebrates and exert their actions through specific G protein-coupled receptors on target cell surfaces. Structural information is now available for human chorionic gonadotropin (CG), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and FSH bound to the extracellular binding domain of its receptor (FSHR(HB)). The recently determined structure of a human FSH-FSHR(HB) complex provides an explanation for the specificity of glycoprotein hormones binding to their receptors, and it suggests hypotheses concerning the mechanism of transmembrane signal transduction.Entities:
