Abstract
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are nuclear receptors involved in lipid and glucose homeostasis, inflammation and wound healing. In addition to ligand binding, phosphorylation can also regulate PPARs; the biological effects of phosphorylation depend on the stimulus, the kinase, the PPAR isotype, the residue modified, the cell type and the promoter investigated. The study of this dual regulation mode, which allows PPARs to integrate signals conveyed by lipophilic ligands with those coming from the plasma membrane, may ultimately offer new therapeutic strategies.Entities:
