Physical activity and breast cancer risk: the effect of menopausal status.

Christine M Friedenreich1.

Abstract

Convincing epidemiologic evidence exists that physical activity reduces breast cancer risk. The association may differ by menopausal status, because stronger evidence for a risk reduction exists for postmenopausal than for premenopausal women. This review examines potential reasons for the differences in effect by menopausal status, including possible underlying biologic mechanisms.
