Radiotherapy with internal emitters: what can dosimetrists offer?

Michael G Stabin1.

Abstract

This paper presents a very brief overview of current methods and models in use in internal dose assessment, and discusses some challenges for the near future. Basic internal dose calculational methodologies are reviewed, and some literature and Internet resources are discussed. An overview of the proper design of kinetic studies to gather data for dose calculations is given. The limitations of current dose models and the promise of better modeling through patient-specific, image-based, methods are discussed.
