Abstract

Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH) is rare in children and is usually confined to the dorsal epidural space. We report on a 5-year-old girl who suffered from acute paraplegia and urinary retention. Magnetic resonance imaging of the spine revealed a dorsal epidural mass from the level of T6 to T8. Emergent decompressive laminectomy was performed and the epidural hematoma was evacuated. She received rehabilitation after surgery with complete recovery 2 months later.
