Abstract
Within the left ventricular myocardium and despite its rather homogeneous structure, local myocardial perfusion varies substantially. Areas of low and high local flow differ with regard to substrate uptake, energy turnover, and demand. This spatial heterogeneity is related to distinct differences in local protein expression, forming the basis of a novel homeostatic mechanism.Mesh:
