Abstract
In the human body iron is present in growth-limiting amounts for bacteria. For this reason intricate iron transport and iron regulatory systems evolved in bacteria to guarantee a sufficient iron supply. The few principal mechanisms that underly the large variety of iron supply systems will be presented, as well as cases, in which defined iron supply systems are related to virulence.Entities:
