Abstract
The integrated stress response to tissue trauma is crucial for the maintenance of homeostasis. An exaggerated or prolonged response may be detrimental in compromised patients. Knowledge of the involved afferent pathways will suggest therapeutic interventions that may modulate the intensity of the stress response.
