Abstract
Mycoplasmas are minute wall-less bacterial parasites that exhibit strict host and tissue specificities. They enter, multiply and survive within the host for extended periods by circumventing host defenses. Their intimate interaction with eukaryotic cells, and in some cases the subsequent invasion into or fusion with these cells, mediates cell damage. Mycoplasmas also modulate the activity of host cells by a variety of direct mechanisms and/or indirectly by cytokine-mediated effects.Entities:
