H Kaur1, R Marshalla.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted diseases are endemic in all societies and the prevalence of diseases spread by sex continues to increase. 233 serum samples submitted for VDRL test were screened for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus by third generation Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. VDRL was positive in 21%, HBsAg in 3% and HIV-1 and HCV in 0.8% patients respectively. No significant correlation was seen in the transmission of two or more pathogens together.
