Abstract
Cells from across the phylogenetic spectrum contain a variety of inositol phosphates. Many different functions have been ascribed to this group of compounds. However, it is remarkable how frequently several of these different inositol phosphates have been linked to various aspects of signal transduction. Therefore, this review assesses the evidence that inositol phosphates have evolved into a versatile family of second messengers.Entities:
