Abstract
PURPOSE: To report a case of congenital intrascleral epithelial cyst. METHOD: Case report. RESULTS: A 3-year-old boy presented with a limbal cyst noticed at birth. The cyst enlarged over the next 3 1/2 years and dissected into the cornea, compromising the visual axis. Excision of the cyst improved the patient's best-corrected visual acuity in the left eye from 20/80 to 20/30. Upon histopathology, the cyst wall was lined by conjunctival epithelium. CONCLUSION: This congenital intrascleral epithelial cyst later enlarged and dissected into the cornea. We believe that the cyst developed secondary to congenital sequestration of conjunctival epithelium.
