Waist circumference: a useful index in clinical care and health promotion.

Abstract

Recent research illustrates that waist circumference may have certain advantages over other measurements of adiposity in predicting risk of obesity-related diseases. Further studies are necessary to determine whether waist circumference is a better predictor of risk than body mass index.
