Abstract
Numerous case reports in the literature describe adverse drug events associated with immediate-release nifedipine (IRN). In addition, several publications alerted health care professionals regarding the agent. However, it is still administered, and adverse reactions are still reported. Our patient suffered IRN-induced hypotension, myocardial ischemia, and mental status changes. We recommend that the use of IRN in treatment of hypertension should be either totally prohibited or severely restricted. The product should not be readily available for indiscriminate administration. Also, continuing education and training are required to alert all health care professionals to the serious dangers associated with this drug.Entities:
