Induction of cytokine receptors by glucocorticoids: functional and pathological significance.

Current concepts on the role of glucocorticoid hormones in the regulation of inflammatory and immune responses depict this role as being inhibitory. Over the past decade, however, a large variety of studies have shown that glucocorticoids also exert stimulatory effects on immune function, suggesting that the present concept of the role of glucocorticoids in the immune system in not sufficient and needs to be extended.
