Gallstone impaction in the duodenal bulb: an uncommon cause of gastric outlet obstruction associated with gallstone emesis.

B N Baako1, E A Badoe.

Abstract

We report a case of Bouveret's Syndrome (gastric outlet obstruction by gallstone) and gallstone emesis, both of which are very rare, in a 77-year old Ghanaian woman. Diagnosis depends on high index of suspicion and confirmation with endoscopy. Definitive treatment consist of enterotomy plus stone retrieval with primary excision of the diseased gallbladder and repair of the duodenal fistula.
