Microsurgical removal of acoustic neuromas.

A L Rhoton.

Abstract

This article reviews the selection and use of instruments for the microsurgical removal of acoustic neuromas by the suboccipital-transmeatal approach. The accurate use of carefully selected instruments for perineural dissection when combined with the use of the operating microscope can lead to frequent preservation of the facial nerve and occasional retention of hearing.
