Emergency medicine in Madagascar.

Abstract

The Democratic Republic of Madagascar lies off the southeastern coast of Africa and ranks as the fourth largest island in the world. Average per capita yearly income is about $400 (US). In 1990 life expectancies at birth were 52 years for men and 55 years for women. Graduate medical education in Madagascar is modeled after the French system.
