An examination of an electrochemical mechanism for noise-induced hair cell loss: noise with amino-oxyacetic acid (AOAA).

R P Bobbin, M S Guth, A B Mines.

Abstract

Pretreatment of guinea pigs with AOAA was found to reduce the incidence of hair cell loss due to noise exposure. Since AOAA reduces the endocochlear potential, we propose an electrochemical model as an extension of the Davis model to explain the protective effect of AOAA.
