Gallbladder rupture, an isolated seat belt injury.

J E Wright.

Abstract

This report describes a patient who suffered free intraperitoneal perforation of a previously normal gallbladder as an isolated abdominal injury from seat belt compression. It is postulated that a prerequisite for such an injury is distension of the gallbladder with bile. Alcohol ingestion in the fasting state is likely to produce such a situation.
