Abstract
Exercise in horses is associated with a wide variety of physiological changes in fluid, electrolyte and acid base balance. The integration of physiologic and physiochemical mechanisms acts to minimize alterations in pH and enhance removal of carbon dioxide produced by exercising muscles. This article provides a description of the changes that take place during exercise and how these changes affect acid-base balance in the horse.Entities:
