The management of thyroglossal duct cysts.

A Ghaneim1, P Atkins.

Abstract

Thirty patients undergoing surgery for a preoperative diagnosis of thyroglossal duct cyst have been reviewed. All patients were seen in a hospital service for patients of 16 years and over. Sistrunk's procedure is the operation of choice but when histological examination of a thyroglossal duct cyst reveals a papillary carcinoma, total thyroidectomy should be considered.
