Fatty acids bind directly to and activate peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma.

G Wolf1.

Abstract

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma function in lipid homeostasis. The receptors are activated by direct binding of hypolipidemic drugs and of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Upon activation, these receptors interact with a number of different genes involved in lipid metabolism.
