2-year clinical evaluation of dentin bonding systems.

H A Alhadainy1, A I Abdalla.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To clinically evaluate dentin bonding systems.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty Class V carious lesions were prepared and restored with four different adhesive systems: Clearfil Liner Bond/Clearfil Photo Anterior, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose/Silux Plus, Syntac/Heliomolar, and Gluma 2000/Pekalux. All restorations were evaluated at baseline, after 1 year and 2 years using the USPHS criteria.
RESULTS: No significant difference was noticed between the tested materials after 1 year. However, the 2-year results revealed that the restorations of Groups 1 and 2 were superior to restorations of Groups 3 and 4. Adhesive systems that remove the smear layer and have a substantial lining function performed better than those that only modify the smear layer.
