Abstract
Of 18 monoclonal Bence Jones proteins purified from urine of patients with multiple myeloma, 4 were found to have a DNA-nicking activity. In contrast, all Bence Jones proteins tested showed detectable amidase activity against carbobenzoxy-L-valyl-glycyl-L-arginine p-nitroanilide. No correlation between the two activities was found. Four patients excreting Bence Jones protein with the DNA-nicking activity showed somewhat severe symptoms, suggesting that this activity may be related to the progressive deterioration of clinical status.Entities:
