Abstract
The functional organization of basal ganglia-thalamocortical circuitry and its application to surgical approaches for dystonia are discussed in this article. A model for dystonia based on neuronal recordings from patients with dystonia is presented, followed by a review of the literature concerning the role of ablative surgery for the treatment of dystonia. Lastly, alternative approaches for the surgical treatment of dystonia are discussed.Entities:
