Abstract
Cellular suicide, or apoptosis, is responsible for a significant proportion of cell death in many bioprocesses. With the progressive elucidation of the biochemical and genetic events leading to this form of cell death, it is now possible to implement strategies for extending the productive lifetimes of cells in culture. These strategies may include nutritional, genetic and chemical methods that enhance cell survival and performance during the critical stages of a culture process, leading to improvements in the production capacity for valuable biotechnological products.Mesh:
