Abstract

PURPOSE: To evaluate efficiency of Nd: YAG-laser iridotomy in the treatment of angle closure glaucoma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 33 eyes of 22 patients were examined before and after the treatment. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured 24, 48 and 72 hours after iridotomy and then in (after) 1 and 6 months. Visual acuity, static perimetry and optic disc evaluation was performed before the treatment and after 1 and 6 months.
RESULTS: In 90% of the eyes, 24 hours after the laser, IOP was below 22 mmHg and it was normalized during the whole follow-up. There no differences between the results of visual acuity, perimetry and optic disc evaluation before the treatment and during follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS: Nd:YAG-laser iridotomy is an efficient method of lowering of IOP in angle-closure glaucoma.
