Fundamental principles of ethical conduct in scientific research.

R R Carl1.

Abstract

A review of historical events pointed to the necessity for ethical conduct in scientific research. The principles of respect for persons, beneficence and justice as identified in the Belmont Report provide valuable guidance for systematic inquiry that adhers to values, standards, and obligations of all disciplines. It is incumbent upon nurses to incorporate these fundamental principles into their research endeavors--whether nurses are in the role of scientific investigator, research participant, or consumer of research findings.
