Abstract

Neurocysticercosis (NC) is the most common parasitic infection of the Central Nervous System (CNS) worldwide. Approximately 50% of patients with NC present cysticerci-meningitis; in spite of this, there is scanty information about this entity. This kind of presentation may lead to extremely serious disease and it often runs a chronic course. There is controversy about management, and some authors point out that use of steroids affords no benefits to the patient. We present 5 cases of cysticerci-meningitis with a follow-up of an average of 18 months, and we make important clinical considerations, underscoring the usefulness of steroids in the treatment of this serious condition.
