[The influence of Ascaris suum infection upon growth rates in pigs (author's tranls)].

S Andersen.

Abstract

The influence of experimental Ascaris suum infection upon growth rates in pigs has been studied in two experiments with disease-free pigs. In pigs where a patent Ascaris infection was established growth rates were decreased by appr. 20% compared with parasite-free controls. The experiments have revealed that the negative influence of Ascaris suum upon growth is caused both by the larvae during migration through the lungs and by the presence of adult worms in the intestine.
