Abstract
The discovery of heterogeneous populations of retinal precursors with sequentially modified fates may help solve the conundrum of conserved histogenesis in the absence of determination either by birthdate or lineage. Combined with a wealth of new data on the exogenous and endogenous factors that influence cellular fate in the retina, models of how complexity is generated are beginning to emerge.Mesh:
