Abstract
Meiotic recombination events are probably critical for the completion of several meiotic processes. In addition, recombination is likely to be involved in the events that lead up to synapsis of homologues in meiotic prophase. Recombination events that ultimately become resolved as exchanges are needed for the formation of chiasmata. Chiasmata maintain the association of paired homologues following loss of the synaptonemal complex and participate in the mechanism that signals that the bivalent has attached to the spindle in a bipolar orientation that will result in meiosis I disjunction.Entities:
