Abstract
The hypothesis, advanced by Asch (Mt Sinai J Med NY 35:214-220, 1968), that a majority of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) cases are actually infanticides, is addressed by examination of age comparable infant homicide rates (United States, 1950-1974) and consideration of current theory regarding SIDS pathogenesis.
