Nurses at the bedside. Influencing outcomes.

J Lamb-Havard1.

Abstract

Nurses who provide direct care to patients significantly impact patient and institutional outcomes. Patient outcomes influenced by nursing interventions and actions include clinical, social, satisfaction, and knowledge outcomes. Institutional outcomes influenced by nursing interventions include quality, image, and financial outcomes. Although research is needed to demonstrate the relationship between direct nursing interventions and outcomes, it is clear that bedside nurses make important contributions.
