New insights into the immunogenetics of multiple sclerosis.

J R Oksenberg1, S L Hauser.

Abstract

The genetic analysis of multiple sclerosis has been based mainly on candidate gene association studies in selected populations. However, the candidate gene approach, although straightforward, is problematic in diseases of unknown or partially known etiology. With the advent of genomic screening and novel statistical approaches, it is possible now to perform an efficient screen of the entire human genome to identify the genetic components of multiple sclerosis.
