The road to the cure of acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a personal perspective.

E J Freireich1.

Abstract

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia was the first syngeneic systemic malignancy to be cured by chemotherapy (1962). The personal description of the key players and the major innovations are presented by one of those participating in this achievement. The principles developed over the subsequent 30 years have found wide application to the therapy of other systemic malignancies.
