Autoimmune diseases: tracing the shared threads.

N R Rose1.

Abstract

Autoimmune diseases tend to be viewed as separate entities. A broader perspective, however, may reveal shared mechanisms that are the cause of disease rather than just the by-products of disease. If this perspective were applied, patients would benefit from improved therapies and early intervention, before the development of irreversible tissue damage.
