Abstract
A liver transplant technique is described in a patient with a thrombosed portal vein and a functioning surgically created renal-lieno shunt. Permanent portal inflow to the graft was provided by division of the left renal vein (LRV) at its junction with the inferior vena cava and anastomosis of the LRV end-to-end with the donor portal vein. Although this results in splanchnic blood traversing a 360 degree roundabout from the superior mesenteric vein via the splenic and disconnected left renal veins to the donor portal vein, the anastomosis lay well and the procedure was successful.Entities:
