Abstract
A 64-year-old man was referred to our hospital for evaluation of progressive anemia. On admission, he had a severe normocytic normochromic anemia [hemoglobin 7.5 g/dl] requiring a blood transfusion. Endocrinological studies demonstrated an isolated ACTH deficiency. After receiving glucocorticoid replacement therapy, his anemia was rapidly corrected, his hematocrit and hemoglobin remained elevated for approximately 4 months. We present evidence that glucocorticoid plays an important role in the physiological regulation of human erythropoiesis.Entities:
