Abstract
The generalized use of some few operative treatments (medialization and advancement of the tuberosity of the tibia, abrasion and forage, lateral retinacular release) for most of patellofemoral pain syndromes without regard to the pathology might cause severe secondary problems. Therefore, a more conservative approach is often preferred. Nevertheless, there exist specific indications for surgical interventions after accurate evaluation of the etiological pathology. Some typical examples are described in three groups [mechanical disorders, malalignment, dysplasias], considering the causing factors.Entities:
