Abstract
The liver is a central organ for carnitine metabolism and for the distribution of carnitine to the body. It is therefore not surprising that carnitine metabolism is impaired in patients and experimental animals with certain types of chronic liver disease. In this review, the changes in carnitine metabolism associated with chronic liver disease and the role of carnitine as a therapeutic agent in some of these conditions are discussed.Entities:
