Intraocular hemorrhage associated with dental implant surgery.

K Krepler1, A Wedrich, R Schranz.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To report a complication of dental implant surgery.
METHOD: We examined a 44-year-old man with systemic hypertension who reported sudden loss of the central visual field in one eye that occurred during maxillar dental implant surgery.
RESULTS: Subretinal, intraretinal, and intravitreal hemorrhages in the right eye were present on initial examination. Intraocular hemorrhage may have been caused by a Valsalva maneuver in combination with a rise of systemic blood pressure during treatment.
CONCLUSION: Intraocular hemorrhages may occur as a complication of dental implant surgery.
