Drugs, athletes, and family physicians. When to withhold medications and when to document prescriptions.

R Olson1.

Abstract

Sport governing bodies restrict drug use by athletes. Family physicians need to know which common medications are banned or restricted, and what documentation of treatment is necessary. The formidable list of banned and restricted substances and methods can be distilled to manageable guidelines for situations often faced by family physicians treating patient-athletes.
