[Bicycle accidents. A retrospective study 1986-1991].

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the type and outcome of bicyclist's accidents+ in a 6 year period from 1986--1991. Data were collected by analyzing accident-re of the police. The study group consisted of 1,176 bicyclists. The young bicyclists+ 11--15 years of age had the highest incidence of collision. 669 bicyclists were l 275 heavily injured, while 20 lost their lifes. Most of the injuries were localized the head, followed by injuries of legs and arms. As a preventive measure information should be given to bicyclists about the risks on the road. Bicyclists can reduce risk of head injuries by wearing an helmet.
